They are all purpose-driven entrepreneurs and businesses.
In my recent talk at the “Passion into Profits” Conference I talked about focusing on your why, ie. the reason these businesses even started. If you have watched Simon Sineks' TEDx Talk you know that being purpose-driven is crucial for companies success. ie. knowing their why (deeper meaning), followed by what and how. Sinek says focusing on why in companies like APPLE helps drive behaviors from the inside out, and inspires loyalty.
In essence, knowing the why helps companies to create the best experience whether online or in person, and through products for their clients. Plus it creates raving fans. Having been a digital user experience expert I know for a fact creating these experiences based on true data helps the company and the bottom dollar. But not just that, it creates a more conscious company and world because NOW you’re not just creating products to create them, you have a deeper reason behind it. Doesn't that just makes sense?
People are caring more and more why products are being made for them but also how because sustainability and leaving the lowest carbon footprint and least damage to the environment is important. Being ‘Socially conscious’ is part of it as it serves the environment and community, ie. the greater good etc. The next generation of kids is quickly understanding that previous generations left quite hefty load on their hands.
Understanding this along with contributing something valuable to the world and serving a clients' needs is making purpose-driven business the future norm.
Elon Musk, one of the brilliant innovators of our time, recently talked about the future of his company and having Saudi Arabia purchase stock in order to privatize it and make more products that do not require oil/gas. So you might ask is he selling out his company or formulating the plan for a future without oil dependency. His BIG why is innovation for the future of humanity and he’s constantly taking risks and betting on a better future. Here are a few words on the matter from Elon himself.
"There have to be reasons that you get up in the morning and you want to live. Why do you want to live? What's the point? What inspires you? What do you love about the future? If the future does not include being out there among the stars and being a multi-planet species, I find that incredibly depressing." Elon Musk
"When Henry Ford made cheap, reliable cars, people said, 'Nah, what's wrong with a horse?' That was a huge bet he made, and it worked." – Elon Musk
