When I did this on May 6 I was at the cusp of a mile stone age that I was and still am determined to prove myself to. The BIG 40! I absolutely believe I feel and should continue to feel 10-20 years younger (at least). The idea that age is nothing but a number is absolutely true IF you can maintain yourself in a positive, healthy, and prime state. That’s my GOAL!
Positivity and all similar emotions – love, joy, happiness, excitement – all raise you endorphins levels or come from raising you endorphins. Guess what can actually lead to this?? That’s right, running. Now obviously its not the only exercise that does this but its been proven to overthrow even depression because where there are endorphins (happy juice) there can be no sadness. So get your running ON! But first let’s talk about Health, Priming and MOFO goals. Health at its best encompasses mind/body/spirit and so with this in mind I’ve been continually (over the last 14 years) adding, removing, and changing my personal balance. Whether its diet, exercise, or mental/emotional health I’ve spent years finding my ideal state and experimenting with what works for me. I have felt my best and my lowest, and am always reaching for better. And each decade or milestone in my life has taught me what is next and what I can do better. It’s a continuous process of self-improvement that has really been a fun journey. Especially in moments like these where I can reach fitness milestones when people assume you can’t. PRIMING yourself is something I talk about a lot in my coaching programs. I learned it with Anthony Robbins in his UPW Live Event as he had us breath and over-oxygenate our bodies while we express gratitude, bring energy to our bodies and envision our goals. It’s exhilarating! Why not add those physical, mental and energetic elements to our mornings? It’s a great idea to practice the things that will set up your day for ultimate success in all areas of your life. And I guarantee that doing this helped me run this 5K because its not just physical fitness, but mental fitness. For more on priming, research Tony Robbins. With the pre-training pieces in place and my goal of 5K in mind I set out to train and triumph on my run. I have to tell you that I was already fairly healthy but not without some glitches. I had been suffering from knee complication after 14 years of snowboarding and torqueing my knee; as well as, a funny right rib which the doctor tells me is a just a beautiful unique deformity yet it crushes my organs if I exhale heavily and deeply. I would get pain consistently when I tried my hand at running several years ago and subsequently stopped because of it. So why would I continue to run?? Determination and conviction to best my body and let it get the best of me! This time I decided not to let my body dictate my success or my ability. I took it easy and trained lightly while I navigated and tweaked my routine to accommodate for any limitations. And low and behold my body became strong enough that pains were minimal or non-existent over time. My knee pain subsided, and I was even able to manage to maintain my breathing so that it didn’t bother my ribs. And that point I said in the beginning where you think you can’t run anymore and then you do. I cried and well that was the highlight of my run and my true breakthrough moment. I felt such a rush of gratitude for my family, friends and true appreciation for my ability to be my best even with what I thought were limitations. TRIUMPH WAS MINE! Thank you to those that came before me to show that it can be done and that your body can truly be as fit as you want it to be at any age. YOU CHOOSE what you believe you can do and the life you want to live. Let's continue and improve that legacy. Your Purpose Coach, Teany
